With the Gen 2 platform, we took a second chance to fully realize the principles of Prime 9—modern innovation on a durable, 9-speed foundation. While Gen 1 brought modern features to the rugged 9-speed platform, Gen 2 goes further by embracing cutting-edge materials and processes that elevate both performance and longevity.
Starting with the shifter, we utilized high-pressure magnesium die-casting to deliver a lightweight yet tough top shell and pull lever. The no-loss gear changes and refined internal mechanisms, including metal injection-molded gears, make for smoother, faster shifts with a minimal effort, embodying a clean, functional design.
The derailleur, built to take on aggressive terrain, features the updated Tri-Pack™ 2.0 clutch system with larger discs and finer threads for improved torque control and reduced chain slap. We added chromoly steel hardware for extra toughness, while a wide-offset cage enhances durability and ensures precise shifting across the full range. The new design keeps things simple, from out-of-sight cable routing to an intuitive setup process.
The 11-50T cassette offers a wide range without compromise, engineered from multi-piece hardened steel for a longer service life without excess weight. It’s optimized for durability and performance, ensuring seamless transitions through tough climbs and fast descents.
Rounding out the groupset, the Box Two chain integrates perfectly with wide/narrow chainrings, ensuring secure engagement and smooth performance across any terrain. Built for long-lasting reliability, it’s made to keep your drivetrain running with minimal adjustments.
