The Box Two Prime 9 Gen 2 Groupset is our most durable platform, now evolving with unique improvements for enhanced riding and lasting performance that combines modern innovation with a durable 9-speed foundation. While Gen 1 introduced key modern features, Gen 2 goes further by embracing cutting-edge materials and processes that enhance both performance and longevity.

Starting with the shifter, the Box Two Prime 9 Gen 2 shifter is designed with a hinged clamp, it offers easy installation and is adjustable for optimal rider comfort. Inside, metal injection-molded gears provide toughness and hardness that increase service life and deliver crisp, reliable feedback. The magnesium top shell and pull lever add structural strength without extra weight, enhancing shift precision. With a no-loss gear change mechanism, the shifter ensures immediate engagement for shorter, faster gear pulls, making it a dependable choice for riders seeking lasting performance.

The Box Two Prime 9 Gen 2 Derailleur is designed for aggressive terrain. Its new geometry features near-horizontal cable actuation for lighter gear pulls and reduced ghost shifting. The Tri-Pack 2.0 clutch system with larger discs and finer threads increases torque and adjustability, reducing chain slap and simplifying setup. A wide-offset cage provides more pulley offset and surface area for crisper shifting and enhanced toughness. Setup management is streamlined with out-of-sight cable routing, a cable pulley and adjustment screws, and a B-gap tool for a cleaner, simpler installation. Chromoly steel hardware ensures longer service life and enhanced durability. The floating lower pulley points toward the chainring, extending service life and ensuring reliable performance under demanding conditions.

The Box Two cassette is where Prime 9 began. Originally developed for E-MTBs to deliver long service life and a wide gear range with fewer gears, it quickly proved itself on unpowered MTBs as well. All cogs are stamped from steel, with the larger ones pinned to alloy spiders for added strength and durability. Due to its origins, it remains the most durable cassette in the range. Available in two versions, the standard 11-50T is suited for traditional MTB use, while the 12-50T E-Bike version features slightly adjusted gear spacing optimized to handle the unique torque and load demands of E-MTB riding, offering smoother power transfer and increased longevity.

Rounding out the groupset, the Box Two Prime 9 chain delivers exceptional durability and performance. It’s fully compatible with wide/narrow chainrings and features hardened solid pins for long-lasting strength. A nickel-plated finish, including the connecting link, enhances corrosion resistance for reliable use in tough conditions. The chain is available in both 126L and 144L lengths, each offering a salt spray life of 45 hours. The 144L option is ideal for cargo and long wheelbase bikes. For riders seeking maximum protection from the elements, the Extended Performance Treatment (XPT) version offers an impressive 650-hour salt spray life, making it well-suited for the harshest environments.

In true Box fashion, the Gen 2 Box Two Groupset focuses on simple, reliable, and durable performance, reflecting a commitment to functional design and longevity. This is Prime 9, perfected for riders who demand more from their gear, because 9 is fine.
