Our Box Four tier is for those people who just want less fuss! You're fond of Prime 9, but know 8 is enough, and surely 11-42T is plenty of range for an 8-speed cassette. Our derailleur still has the Limited Slip clutch but now arrives with a more compact cage. The custom 8-speed chain is built for abuse, although it's sophisticated enough to have its own Wide/narrow chainring. Push through fewer gears with a no-nonsense shifter. This combo will transport you to 1 by territory for less than $200.

No, Shimano direct mount hangers are proprietary and are not compatible with Box derailleurs.
No, traditional 8 speed systems use a Cable Pull that is not compatible with Prime 9.
No, Box Prime 9 derailleurs are not currently compatible with drop bar shifters, but we do offer a clamp for our shifters to mount on some 31.8mm drop handle bars.
We suggest removing the derailleur from the bike and using a soft bristle brush or rag with soapy water or a mild degreaser. We do not recommend pressure washing, strong solvents or de-greasers as they could degrade the surface coating.

Yes. All Box One Shifters come with a stainless steel shift cable.
To remove it, use a Phillips head screwdriver and turn it counter-clockwise a quarter turn You can then push the cap out by applying pressure to the cable from the other side. Please Note: The Cable Port is not a screw that un-threads from the cable port if you turn the cable port screw more than 90 degrees damage may occur.

This is a **** of a 1x upgrade for under $200! I'm relatively handy and comfortable with wrenching on things, but totally new to really tinkering with bikes. After reading Box's support materials and watching their Youtube video and a few others, installation of this groupset was a breeze. It only took a couple of hours and I know that I could have completed the installation a lot quicker if I had to. Super impressed with the quality of the components. Everything seems built to last and the performance has been great -- crisp gear changes, quiet ride, superb chain tension. Lastly, Box's customer service and support is, in a word, outstanding. They were more than happy to answer my newbie questions and provide guidance. Totally impressed across the board -- thank you!
I recently purchased a project bike for my family. It had a really decent 3x9 system installed, but lacked the needed range for climbing our local trails. So researched this kit and realized it had the same range as my last 1x11 I had in a high end mtb I rode. Installing was easy, kit is high quality, came with a new chain! Looks good, performs well, even on my janky hub still never missed a beat. Worth every penny! Great budget option into the 1x world. Fyi the clutch is so strong this old bike is now quiet and a breeze to pedal
The clutch action of the rear derailleur is fantastic. The force required to shift is much more than I'm used too - compared to shimano/sram. The engagement is strong and I am enjoying it much more then other brands. I definitely consider Box components an upgrade. I was going back and forth between 8 or 9 speed. I ended up going for the 8 speed setup. The range of gear ratios is plenty for any riding style in my opinion. I am very pleased. The quality of this groupset is very good and at this price point it is a no-brainer. The groupset includes a master link which was not mentioned in the description so I ordered 1. Upon arrival of the package I ended up with 2 master links. Turns out the optional Box narrow wide chain ring is not compatible with a master link so be aware of this. Despite the master link incompatibility, I highly recommend this groupset.
I recently ordered the Box 8 speed to replace a 3x8 drivetrain on a 10 year old XC bike. It was easy to install and shifts great. Seems to be good quality especially considering the price. The cassette provides plenty of range for me, using a 32 tooth chainring. It was in stock and shipped in a few days, despite all the shortages in the industry right now. Overall this seems to be a great drivetrain for under $200.
After 20 years my commuter bike’s drive train was beyond shot. Ordered this, got it installed in an afternoon and smooth sailing again.
