How do I install / adjust the Box Four drivetrain on my bike?

Derailleur
Are Box Prime 9 derailleurs compatible with Shimano "direct mount" hangers?
No, Shimano direct mount hangers are proprietary and are not compatible with Box derailleurs.
Is the Box Four Prime 9 Derailleur compatible with other 8 speed components?
No, traditional 8 speed systems use a Cable Pull that is not compatible with Prime 9.
Are Box Prime 9 derailleurs compatible with drop bar (road) shifters?
No, Box Prime 9 derailleurs are not currently compatible with drop bar shifters, but we do offer a clamp for our shifters to mount on some 31.8mm drop handle bars.
How should I clean my Box Four Prime 9 derailleur?
We suggest removing the derailleur from the bike and using a soft bristle brush or rag with soapy water or a mild degreaser. We do not recommend pressure washing, strong solvents or de-greasers as they could degrade the surface coating.
How do I make adjustments to the derailleur?

Shifter
Does the Box Four Shifter come with a cable?
Yes. All Box One Shifters come with a stainless steel shift cable.
How do I remove the cap from the cable port to install a new cable?
To remove it, use a Phillips head screwdriver and turn it counter-clockwise a quarter turn You can then push the cap out by applying pressure to the cable from the other side. Please Note: The Cable Port is not a screw that un-threads from the cable port if you turn the cable port screw more than 90 degrees damage may occur.
Is the Box Four Shifter compatible with other 8 speed derailleurs?
No, traditional 8 speed systems use a Cable Pull that is not compatible with Box Four components.
Cassette
Will the Box Four Prime 9 Cassette fit on a wheel with a Sram XD Driver?
No this will only work with a HG splined Shimano 9-10-11 speed freehub body.
Is the Box Four Prime 9 Cassette compatible with other 8 speed drivetrains?
No, The Box Four Prime 9 Cassette is optimized for use only with Box Four Prime 9 Components; running other component variations could result in poor performance.
How should I clean my Four Prime 9 Cassette?

Derailleur hangers
Q: Can I install this on my bike that uses a b-link for my current derailleur?
A: Yes! All you need to do is remove your old derailleur and the b-link leaving the standard hanger attached to your bike frame. You can now mount your Box Components derailleur directly to the hanger on your frame.
Q: Can I install this on my bike that currently has a direct mount hanger?
A: Possibly, you will need to see if your frame manufacturer or a third party like wheelsMFG offers a standard mount hanger for your frame.
Cassette Body
Q: Will Box be making cassettes compatible with XD or Microspline driver bodies?
A: At this time our cassettes are only compatible with HG style MTB 8/9/10 speed or road 11 speed driver bodies. Most hub manufacturers offer the different

Crankset compatibility
Q: Can I use X crankset with Prime 9?
A: We recommend 1 by specific cranksets to achieve proper chainline and performance. The crankset you choose will depend on your bike frame and budget.
Chainring Compatibility
Q: Can I use my standard chainring with your Prime 9 drivetrain?
A: For the best performance and chain retention we recommend you use a narrow wide 11 speed chainring. This will best match the internal geometry of our chains and provide you with the best riding experience. These are some of the brands we recommend, Wolftooth Components, Raceface, One Up Components, Absolute Black.
